Nurgulite Cultists who called themselves the 'Rebirthers' would commit terror attacks across the system with Ebolanthrax outbreaks, and make the system's worlds ripe for Nurgulite takeovers after swaying its starving, diseased populations. Without the crucial agri-world of Crassin's Meadow, crippling famines would erupt all over Barrowman's System. To that end, Nurgle set his sights on the Barrowman System. The ongoing Plague Wars inspired Nurgle and his closest servants to expand their sickening domain in the Materium. The Siege of the Unliving didn't just require a full-scale counterattack by the Emperor's Avenging Angels, but an ability to unify disparate factions. The closest of them happened to be the renegade Emperor's Liberators and Agents of Liberty, fellow sons of the Jaghatai Khan the Destroyers of Worlds, and even an Inquisitor named Duran Heika. Unfortunately, the arrival of Death Guard reinforcements with a vested interest in the world forced the Wraiths to request additional aid from other Astartes chapters. Their prayers would be answered by the Lightning Wraiths chapter, who quickly managed to bring the zombie plague in check. The PDF, already overwhelmed by the rising zombie infestations, requested reinforcements. What initially began as a growing zombie plague escalated into a full-scale war for Crassin's Meadow, an agri-world crucial to the survival of the wider Barrowman System. The Siege of the Unliving was a vicious campaign waged by the vile servants of Nurgle.
